The CARA Gymnastics Girls league has two divisions, compulsory and optionals. The compulsory division has two levels, Level IV and Level V. The optionals division has five levels, Optional 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5.
Compulsory Level IV is the entry level for the CARA league. In the compulsory division all of the gymnasts (from each agency)compete the same routine on each event. Compulsory level routines are choreographed by the CARA Routine Committee and remain the same for 4-5 years. The committee is currently working on new routines to be performed in 2014.
The compulsory Level V routine is a progression from Level IV and is designed to prepare gymnasts for their optional level skills.
Optional level gymnasts perform unique routines that differ from everyone else in the competition on each event. Optional routines must fill requirements set by the National Federation of State High School Association. The level of difficulty in an optional routine determines what level (1-5) the optional gymnast will compete at.
Boys ages 7-18 learn routines and compete against other teams, in their own age groups and levels throughout the state of Colorado. They compete during the summer in three regular season meets with the fourth meet being their State meet. The boys utilize and compete on all six apparatuses: floor exercise, rings, pommel/mushroom, high bar, parallel bars, and vault.
Currently for CARA competition, the levels range from level 4 – level 7; however there is potential for higher levels when there is interest. We also do not have specific age groups this year due to the low numbers, so each level is 7-18yrs.
